An FCT High Court in Maitama has convicted Maryam Sanda for the killing of her husband Bilyaminu Bello and sentenced her to death by hanging.
The court also ordered that she be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre until she exhaust her appeal rights.
There was a mild drama after Maryam fled the dock upon her conviction. She kept chanting ‘inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun’. She was however taken back into the dock by officials of the Correctional Centre.

The atmosphere was charged as many women who accompanied Maryam to the court wailed uncontrollably.
It would be recalled that Maryam was arrested and subsequently charged to court over the killing of her husband, a nephew of former PDP Chairman, Alhaji Bello Halliru Muhammad.
Maryam’s mother, Maimuna Aliyu; brother, Aliyu Sanda and housemaid, Sadiya Aminu, who were charged along with her for conspiracy, were discharged by the judge.
