Mambilla power project: Power minister leads FG’s sensitization team

The Minister of Power Engineer Sale Mamman has led a Federal Government delegation for the official flag-off of the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project sensitisation programme.

The state delegation is led by Taraba State Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku. The event is being held in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.

Dateline Nigeria reports that the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project is a 3050 megawatt facility sited in Kakara Village of Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State. Construction is expected to commence this year.

In March this year, the Ministry of Power had announced the disbursement of N700 million for survey works on the project site to ascertain the actual land area for the project, before the commencement of compensation to beneficiaries.

“Survey activity usually precedes compensation because you need to get the total land area. After that, you can then identify beneficiaries, as well as know the number of those displaced and those to be relocated,” the ministry had said at the time.

Earlier in February, the power minister had announced the settlement of a legal dispute with Sunrise Power and Transmission Company, once the contractor for the project which was first conceived in the 1970s.

The facility is to be built by a consortium including China Energy Engineering Corp. and Sinohydro Corp. at a projected cost $4.8 billion, about $1 billion less than earlier estimates, Mamman said.
