LG polls: Group educates Bauchi electorate against violence

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Searchlight Initiative for Community Peace Advocacy and Rural Development in Nigeria, has tasked stakeholders on the need for peaceful local government election in Bauchi State slated for Saturday, October 17, 2020.

The group stated this on Tuesday in Bauchi at a seminar with the theme “The Imperative of Peaceful Conduct of Local Government elections in Bauchi State”.

In his welcome address, the Deputy Director Peace and Conflict Resolution of the group Comrade Umar Nuru advised people to exhibit nonviolent behavior such as humility, honesty, empathy, hard work, love, volunteerism and charity work to achieve violent and hitch free election.

In their separate lectures Comrade Abdullahi Koli, Comrade Mohammed Ghani Dass, Reverend Exiekel Abasu and Mallam Mustafa Baba Ilelah called on the electorate to come out and cast their vote for the candidate of their choice, while calling on the security agencies to provide adequate security for the elections.

“Election is not war and we should not make it so. We therefore call on the good people of Bauchi state to go out and cast their votes peacefully on the day of the election and avoid any temptation to partake in violent activities during and after the election,” they said.

The speakers also advised the electoral body to be fair to all for the success of the exercise.
