The Director General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) Mr Dasuki I. Arabi has posited that the present administration under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari had introduced plethora of laws and taken appropriate measures to coordinate anti-Corruption activities, improve integrity, transparency and accountability through strengthening of Nigeria,s Assets Recovery legislation,including the non – conviction based confiscation powers and introduction of unexplained wealth .
He indicated this in a keynote address delivered at a one day High Level Meeting at promoting Transparency and Accountability in Asset Declaration by Public Officers in Nigeria organised by Socio-Econimic Right and Accountability – SERAP with the theme titled No Escape for the Corrupt : Lifting the Lid on Asset Declaration in Nigeria, held on Wednesday 31st March, 2021 in Lagos.
The workshop was aimed at bringing together officials drawn from MDAs, Anti – Corruption Agencies , Media and Non- State Actors to promote ways of accountability in Asset Declaration by Public Officers.
Commenting further, DG, BPSR indicated that the Bureau through her reform initiatives had introduced policies to support the anti- corruption fight such as the “Bureau’s Score- Card Ranking of MDAs website Adoption of Cash Management policy Treasury Single Account* Whistle Blower policyFull implementation of the Public Procurement Act Open Contracting* Strengthened role of Non- State Actors in monitoring and evaluating public expenditure allocation, use and Accountability.
In a separate interview granted by the DG, BPSR to Galaxy Television and TV 360 News, Arabi emphasized the need for a national rebirth and orientation to fight corruption.
According to him, Government had already put in place a lot of legislative and fiscal reforms to address the issue.
He commended the code of conduct Bureau, Code of Conduct Tribunal and various anti- graft bodies including EFCC, ICPC and other relevant agencies of government in their activities to ensure compliance in Asset Declaration by Public Officers and fight against Corruption.
The event culminated in the release of recommendation and plan of Action by the Deputy Director of SERAP, Mr. Oluwadare Komolafe.
