Late president Yar’Adua liked cold bean cake, son says

Late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua liked having cold bean cake (kosai) at night or bread and stew, according to his son Musa.

Speaking with BBC Hausa, Musa described his late father as a simple man.

Musa Yar’Adua spoke to BBC Hausa

“My father liked cold bean cake a lot, and it was usually late at night, and he liked bread and stew. He was a man that was truly simple. Even in our household, no one took after him in this regard. He would return from work, eat his bean cake and feel satisfied,” Musa said.

Musa said he is happy with the way Nigerians still appreciate the good works his father did for the country. “This means people need to be good and responsible in whatever they do,” he added.

He also expressed happiness that he comes from a family that served Nigeria beginning with his grandfather late Musa Yar’Adua, who was minister of Lagos in the first republic, and his uncle Shehu Yar’Adua who rose to become second in command in the country.

Musa said his ambition is to make sure he did not soil the good name of his family, especially on account of the role they played in the development of Nigeria.

He however said he has no interest in partisan politics, but will be ever ready to contribute his quota to nation-building.

The late president Yar’Adua, who died on May 5, 2010, was also a two-time governor of Katsina State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from 1999 to 2007.

He left behind one wife, Hajiya Turai Yar’Adua and seven children – five females and two males.
