Kwara: How a middle-aged man committed suicide over N200,000 debt

Identified as Habibullahi Aminullahi, a middle-aged man committed suicide in Ganmo community, near Ilorin in Kwara on Monday.

Before his death, Aminullahi was a grinding machine operator. He reportedly hung himself in his shop at Ajase-Ipo Road in Ilorin.

Aminullahi was said to complain to his friends over a N200,000 debt from a daily contribution he was coordinating.

The friends were said to advise Aminullahi to be calm as things gradually improve. However, the source said Aminullahi refused to heed the advice and went ahead to hang himself.

The deceased recently married a second wife who was described as being heavily pregnant.

Aminullahi’s younger brother found his body dangling in the shop.

However, according to friends, Aminullahi had property he could use to offset his N200,000 debt.

“He had a car used as taxi, two houses in his community and more than five grinding machines in his shop”, a friend said.

The spokesman of Kwara State Police Command, SP. Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the development.

Ajayi said the deceased did not leave a suicide note.
