Kilgori insignia underscores messages of unity, Tambuwal says

The flag and other totems of the 18th century Islamic Reawakening that took root in Sokoto, which were described by Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as underscoring the unity of purpose and transparency of that historical epoch, showed up at Government House, Sokoto on Friday.

Being part of the insignia of office for the tenth Sa’in (Ombudsman of) Kilgori, or the (District Head) of Kilgori, (about 54 kilometers from the state capital), Dr Muhammad Jabbi Kilgori, in Yabo local government area of the state, the totems were presented to Gov. Tambuwal, when the traditional ruler and his people paid him a thank you visit.

Kilgori’s ancestors were also historically the flag bearers during the various Reawakening campaigns that traversed many parts of West Africa more than 200 years ago. The flags had inscribed on their reverse sides: ‘Allahu Akbar’ (God is Great) and ‘La ilaha illallahu, Muhammadu Rasulullah’ (There is no deity except Allah and Muhammad is His Apostle).

According to Gov. Tambuwal, the state government and the Sultanate Council are conscious of the age long importance of the traditional title as it relates to the Islamic Reawakening of the 18th century.

“We are aware, as you rightly mentioned, of the historical relevance of this esteemed title of Sa’in Kilgori. Similarly, we know the respect that the Sultanate Council accords this revered position. I have no doubt that the incumbent Sultan will maximise your impeccable credentials and fertile potentials towards ensuring the development of your domain and the state in general.

He said with Dr Kilgori’s talent and experience in the academia and public service at both the state and national level, his administration is confident that he would contribute immensely towards the development of the state.

He said this was why the state government saddled him with the onerous responsibility of chairing the committee on dry season farming aimed at providing succor to farmers who lost agricultural fortunes to this year’s perennial flooding.

Assuring him that the Sultanate Council will also work with him closely in order to move the Council and the state government forward, Gov. Tambuwal prayed to God to guide him in the discharge of his new assignment.

Earlier in his address, Dr Kilgori, said he was at the Government House with his family members, village heads, friends and well wishers to thank the governor for giving him the opportunity to succeed his father.

He explained that the title has a great historical place in the history of Sokoto Caliphate.

He said his family are descendants of Malam Ibrahim Mai Tuta, one of the Islamic scholars who migrated with Shehu Usman Danfodio from Degel to Gudu and also fought on many fronts as commander of the Islamic Reawakening army.

Jabbi promised to leverage on his experience to contribute his quota to the development of the Sultanate Council and the state government.
