Kidnapped female police officer rescued from gunmen

A female policewoman who was kidnapped and held by gunmen suspected to be members of IPOB has been rescued in Owerri.

The officer was set free after an arrested IPOB member led security agents to a hideout where she was being kept.

Her release came after a team of soldiers and police foiled an attack on Imo police headquarters by gunmen early morning today.

Dateline Nigeria has exclusively reported that five gunmen were killed after the attack was repelled while one suspect was arrested.

Two gunmen had been killed at the headquarters, sources said, adding that three others were trailed to a building hideout and also killed.

One of those killed was a man suspected to be an IPOB member who, in a recently released vidoe, claimed to be a member of the 71 intake of the Nigerian Army.

Security sources told Dateline Nigeria that the arrested member of the group led police and soldiers to a hideout where the police woman was found.

“They intend to use her to get information on their intended police targets,” one of the sources disclosed.
