The Kaduna State Government has adjusted to Wednesday and Thursday the two-day window on which the restriction of movement is relaxed.
Residents will be free to visit their neighbourhood markets on 20th and 21st May 2020 to purchase food and other essential items. This adjustment means that no market will be open next Saturday.
Following the government decision, the Kaduna Markets Development and Management Company (KMDMC) has announced that it will make all the necessary arrangements for the orderly and safe conduct of trading activities at all the designated temporary neighbourhood markets.
Traders and their customers visiting the temporary markets on Wednesday and Thursday are expected to wear facemasks, observe physical distancing and comply with other public health protocols on both days.
KMDMC noted that trading activities went smoothly in 40 of the 46 temporary
markets on Saturday, 16th May 2020. The company commended the orderly
and mature attitude of the traders and customers that are making the
neighbourhood markets work as safe spaces for getting essentials.
However, the company warned those traders that are trying to turn the streets nearby the closed main markets into illegal shops to desist.
In its guidelines for the operations of the temporary neighbourhood markets, the state government approved that the markets should operate from 10am to 4pm on the two days on which the restriction of movement is relaxed.
KMDMC appealed for compliance with this guideline, and other conditions including the need to wear facemasks and submit to temperature checks before entering the markets.
