Kano to hold Friday, Eid prayers

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has granted permission for Friday (Jumu’ah) and Eid el-Fitr prayers to hold in the state.

A media aide to the governor, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, said this followed a meeting between government officials led by the governor and representatives of religious leaders in the state on Monday.

However, Ganduje said celebrations will not hold as the state will continue its lockdown.

“A directive has also been given to the Imams of Jumuah mosques to ensure that congregants wear facemasks, provide hand sanitisers, ensure social distancing and shorten the sermon,” the statement said.

Kano has now joined other states, including Borno, who have granted permission for congregational and Eid prayers to hold.
