Kano shuts 12 secondary schools in wake of Zamfara abduction

Kano State Government has shut 12 boarding schools on the outskirt of the state over increasing security challenges and abduction of students.

The Kano State Commissioner for Education, Muhammad Sanusi Kiru announced this on Friday.

He said the state government decided to shut the schools after considering the security situations in some neighbouring states.

Dateline Nigeria reports that bandits had attacked three boarding schools in Katsina, Niger and Zamfara states in the last three months.

The schools include Ajingi Girls Secondary School at Sumaila, Girls Secondary School Jogana, Girls Secondary School Gezawa, Government Secondary School Kafin Maiyaki (male), Maitama Sule Secondary School Gaya, Girls Secondary School Kachako, Girls Secondary School Kunchi, Unity College Karaye and Girls Arabic College Albasu, Girls Secondary School Tudun Wada and Danzabuwa.

He appealed to parents to immediately proceed to the schools to pick their children, adding that reopening of the schools would be announced later.
