Kano scholars present position on stalled sitting with Sheikh Abduljabbar

Islamic scholars in Kano State have held an emergency meeting on Monday in Kano under their forum to take a stand on the inability of the state government to organise the debate between them and Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara as promised.

The Kano State government had in February fixed March 7 for the debate. It had earlier banned Abduljabbar from preaching after he was consistently accused of insulting the companions of the Prophet.

The scholars at the meeting are Khalifa Sheikh Karibullah Sheikh Nasiru Kabara, Khalifa Sayyadi Tijjani Zangon Bare-Bari, Sheikh Abdulwahhab Abdallah, Sheikh Ibrahim Shehu Maihula (Shehi-Shehi), and Imam Muhammad Nasir Adam.

Others are Alkali Mustapha Sheikh Nasiru Kabara, Dr. Matabuli Shehu Kabara, Prof. Muhammad Babangida Muhammad, Malam Muhammad Albakari Mika’il, Imam Ali Aliyu Abubakar, Imam Aliyu Abdulkadir Abdulkadir, Dr. Ibrahim Muazzam Maibushira and Dr. Saidu Ahmad Dukawa.

The scholars, in a statement by their secretary Dr Saidu Ahmad Dukawa, observed that since the court clarified that it did not stop the sitting, the Forum had written three letters to the government as follows:

a) Letter to the Kano State Shari’ah Commission dated 28/3/2021;

b) Reminder to the Kano State Shari’ah Commission dated 27/4/2021, which was copied to the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice seeking his intervention;

c) Letter to Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje asking him to be fair to AbdulJabbar by granting the latter’s request to be allowed to sit with Kano scholars. The letter was dated 24/5/2021 and received on 25/5/2021.

“None of these letters had been replied by the state government

“Forum notes that the people want to know what is happening.

“Hence, the leadership of the forum has made the following resolutions:

1. Publishing of copies of the three letters in both tradional and social media platforms for the people to see;

2. Directing all those seeking information on the stalled sitting to refer their queries to the government;

3. Called on the people to intensify prayers to the Almighty Allah against those insulting the companions of the Prophet, and4. Forum will consider its next line of action in line with provisions of the law.
