Kano police arraign woman over killing of househelp

The Kano State Police Command said it has arraigned one Fatima Hamza, 30, before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Gyadi-Gyadi over the killing of her househelp.

The spokesperson of the command Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa disclosed this on Sunday.

The suspect allegedly beat her 16-year-old househelp Khadija Rabiu to death for failing to do chores assigned to her in Sharada Salanta area of Kano.

An eye witness, Rafi’a Muhammad, who is also a housemaid to the suspect, told Daily Trust how the incident happened.

“We came back together with our boss and she noticed that Khadija had not done the house chores.

“When she asked Khadija why, she said she was ill. Our boss went ahead to verbally abuse her first before beating her with a pestle.

“She later called me to bring another stick to beat her too. I had started beating her but stopped when I noticed she was crying.

“She used a metal object to inflict injury on her vagina and later asked me to bring dried pepper from the kitchen which she put in Khadija’s vagina,” Rafi’a said.

The eye witness added that Khadija eventually died at the hospital where she was taken to by their boss.

When taken to the police station, the suspect said the deceased she died from bites from a cat.

Dateline Nigeria reports that the story of the slain househelp, who hailed from Kwara, generated controversy with many alleging attempts to cover up the case.
