Kano court orders psychiatric evaluation of Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara

An Upper Sharia Court in Kano on Thursday ordered for psychiatric evaluation for Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara.

Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara is standing trial for blasphemy after debating with Kano Islamic scholars who accused him of disrespecting the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him).

The court had approved the inclusion of fresh charges filed by the lawyers representing Kano State government against the cleric which was objected to by his counsels.

Abduljabbar had kept mute and failed to reponse to all the questions he was aked in relation to the charges against.

The presiding judge, Justice Ibrahim Sarki Yola, over-ruled their objections and ordered Abduljabbar to respond to the new charges, but his lawyers asked him to keep mute- which he obliged.

The court verdict that recommended the evaluation after submissions by counsel to Kano State Government, Barr Sa’ida (SAN) that demanded the court to examine the mental health of Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasir Kabara, under section 278 (8) in ACJL.

The judge adjourned the case to September 16, 2021 for continued hearing and to enable the court to receive the health report of the Sheikh.
