Kano assembly suspends five members

The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended five of its members for six months for breaching its rules.

The Speaker, Abdulazeez Gafasa, who disclosed this on Monday in Kano, gave the names of the affected members as Garba Ya’u Gwarmai, Labaran Audu Madari, Isyaku Ali Danja, Bello Muhammad, and Salisu Ahmad Gwangwazo.

They were suspended for attempting to take away the mace during plenary last week.

Dateline Nigeria reports that the legislators had accused the house leadership of conniving with the government of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in an effort to dethrone Muhammadu Sanusi II as Emir of Kano.

Neither the suspended lawmakers nor the house leadership was available for comment at the time of filing this report.
