Kagara emir deserves to be immortalised, Niger gov says

  • Late monarch buried amidst eulogies

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State says the late Emir of Kagara, Alh. Salihu Tanko deserve to be immortalized after his meritorious service to the state and country.

Governor Sani Bello disclosed this shortly after the janaiza (burial) of the Emir in Kagara, headquarter of Rafi local government.

He said the deceased being one of the oldest emirs dedicated his life towards the development of his emirate, the state and the nation, as such, immortalizing him will be right.

The Governor revealed that he had consultations with the late Emir on several occasions before he took ill saying that his wise counsel would be missed.

He called on the people to pray for the repose of the soul of the departed traditional ruler and for Allah to forgive his shortcomings.

The Governor also prayed Allah to grant the deceased Aljannatu Firdausi and give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

The Chairman, Niger State Traditional Council of Rulers and Estu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar said they have lost a rare gem whose positive impact would be missed.

Alh. Abubakar said that the entire traditional council will miss his fatherly advice pointing out that most of them met him on the throne.

He urged the family to accept the demise of the Emir as the will of Allah, and prayed that Aljannatu Firdausi will be his final abode.

Other state executive council members that were part of the Governor’s entourage at the Janaiza included his Deputy, Alh. Mohammed Ahmed Ketso, Secretary to the State Government, Ibrahim Ahmed Matene, chief of Staff Ibrahim Balarabe kagara commissioners and other top government functionaries.

The Speaker of the state house of assembly, Abdullahi Bawa Wuse also led other state lawmakers to the burial.

Emirs of Agaie, Lapai and Minna were also present at the burial.

The funeral prayer was led by Mallam Aliyu Umar Karaya.
