KADSUBEB replies ‘aggrieved’ teachers, denies salary delay, illegal deductions

The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB) has said that it neither delays payment of salaries of its staff nor engages in any unlawful deductions of any kind.

KADSUBEB spoke in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer Hauwa Mohammed on Thursday. It was responding to the threat by “aggrieved SUBEB teachers” who threatened to stage a protest over what they refer to as “persistent delay of salary and unlawful deductions” from their salaries.

It said, “We wish to inform the general public that KADSUBEB does not delay payment of salaries of its staff nor engage in any unlawful deductions of any kind.

“Salaries of Primary School Teachers and all Local Government Education Authorities are the sole responsibility of the Local Government Councils.

“Every month KADSUBEB computes the salaries of the staff of Teaching and Non-Teaching staff, advises the Ministry of Local Government and sends invoices to each Local Government.

“After the Joint Account Allocation Committee meeting held each month, the Local Governments then remits the money to SUBEB after which we credit accounts of Primary School Teachers within 2 days of receiving the funds.

“Delays only arise when the Local Governments do not remit their funds on time.”

Apart from Union dues, Pensions, KADCHMA and PAYE deductions, KADSUBEB does not deduct any kobo from the salary of any staff except expressly requested by the staff.

We have responded to similar complaints/enquiries about such deductions from the Nigerian Union of Teachers. The NUT Kaduna State branch has confirmed they are not aware of any grievances on unlawful deductions from its members.

Therefore, the general public, security agencies and indeed our teachers in all the 23 LGEAs are hereby called upon to disregard any call from these faceless individuals to resort to any protest.
All staff of KADSUBEB are as well advised to distant themselves from any unlawful action that may cause breakdown of law and order in the State.
