Seven die in Abuja military plane crash, NAF investigates

The Nigerian Air Force has confirmed that all seven personnel on board the Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft that crashed in Abuja have died.

In a statement, NAF said the plane crashed while returning to the Abuja Airport after reporting engine failure enroute Minna. “First responders are at the scene. Sadly, all 7 personnel on board died in the crash,” it said.

It added that the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Isiaka Amao, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.

“While urging the general public to remain calm & await the outcome of investigation, the CAS, on behalf of all NAF personnel, commiserates with the families of the deceased,” it added.

Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika had earlier in a tweet on Sunday said “A military aircraft King Air 350 has just crashed short of our Abuja runway after reporting engine failure en-route Minna.

“It appears to be fatal. We should remain calm and wait for the outcome of an investigation by the military, while we pray for the departed soul/souls if any.”

The aircraft was said to have reported engine failure and crash-landed on the final approach path of Abuja runway 22 at 1048UTC (11:48 local time).

The Director, Press and Public Affairs, Ministry of Aviation confirmed the incident to journalist.
