The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the death of six people during an attack on the Emir of Potiskum, Mai Umaru Bubaram ibn Wuriwa Bauya, on Kaduna-Zaria highway on Tuesday night.
The spokesman of the command, Yakubu Sabo, said the incident occurred at about 11:00pm, adding that the emir is receiving treatment at the Barau Dikko Hospital Kaduna.
He said four of the victims were aides to the emir. Several people might have been abducted by the attackers as empty vehicles were left at the scene when government officials visited on Wednesday, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported.
Sabo said the Commissioner of Police Umar Muri had visited the emir at the hospital. The command’s spokesman said investigation into the incident had commenced.
Dateline Nigeria reports that the emir was on his way to Zaria ahead of the formal launching of the Potiskum Central Mosque appeal fund.
