Jibrin: My mandate was stolen but won’t go to court

A former member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has said that he will not go to court to challenge the results of the rerun election for Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State.

Jibrin however said he did not lose the election but that his mandate was forcefully stolen.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Aliyu Datti-Yako was announced as the winner of the election having defeated Jibrin of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Datti-Yako winner of the reelection which took place on Saturday. The returning officer, Prof. Abdullahi Arabi said, Datti-Yako scored 48,601 to defeat Jibrin who got 13,587 votes.

“Yesterday I released an official statement in respect of the re run election in my constituency. The full statement is attached to this tweet. Let me conclude with an emphasis that we did not lose that election but our mandate was stolen through the use of brutal force,” he wrote on Twitter.

“However I have congratulated my opponent and will not file petition in court. I will make no further comment on this matter. I urge the media to please respect my decision. This is the end of another beginning. I have moved on!” he added.

Abdulmumin Jibrin allegedly fell out with Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje shortly after the 2019 governorship election.
