Hunter, 64, commits suicide after ‘killing’ wife, son in Anambra

A 67-year-old hunter has taken his own life after killing his wife and son in Amunike community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The spokesman of the Anambra State Police Command CSP Haruna Mohammed disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

He said the tragedy was reported to the police on Thursday by the vigilante chairman Amunike community in Awka North LGA of Anambra State.

“… that on Thursday at about 3:am, a hunter one Uchechukwu Nweke, 65, allegedly shot his wife Patricia Nweke, 55, with a single barrel gun and also burnt his house along with his son named Obinna Nweke, 29, in a circumstances yet to be ascertained. Suspect equally shot himself using the same gun.”

He said police detectives attached to Achalla police station have visited the scene and rushed victims to Uche hospital Isuanocha where all the three victims were certified dead by a medical doctor on arrival.

“Corpses of the victims were deposited at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy. Investigation is ongoing to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident,” Mohammed added.
