How lawmaker slumped, died in Sokoto

A member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly Isa Harisu Kebbe has died.

The member died after slumping just before the commencement of the day’s sitting in Sokoto on Monday.

He was said to be conversing with one of his colleagues inside the office of the deputy leader of the assembly when the incident happened.

“We were seated in the office of the deputy leader. He was even the one talking. All of a sudden he slumped from his chair,” his colleague Bello Isa Ambursa told the BBC Hausa Service.

He said he has no idea whether the deceased was suffering from any illness, but he was never on admission at the hospital since they became colleagues.

“We usually start legislative business by 10:30am. But we were waiting for our other colleagues to arrive around 10am. Some were even teasing him that he was always arriving late but today he was the first to come.

“We were discussing 2023 (the year in which general elections will hold in Nigeria). It was nothing serious.

“One of our colleagues who has medical background was the one who attended to him before he was taken to the hospital. When we called to confirm his condition, we were told that he had died,” Bello said.

He described the deceased lawmaker as a jovial person who was respected by all.

The late lawmaker was a member of the opposition APC in the state and represented Kebbe constituency at the assembly. He is survived by three wives and 20 children.
