Hamza Al-Mustapha: I’ll address insecurity in 6 months if elected president

Former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State General Sani Abacha has said that if he is elected president of Nigeria he will tackle the insecurity bedeviling the country in six months.

Retired Major Hamza Al-Mustapha said he will move to Sambisa Forest in Borno State, which is seen as the headquarters of Boko Haram terrorists, and stay their for one week to take the necessary action to finish them.

”For instance, not just the Boko Haram menace, I will say in six months if it is not addressed, all the senior officers will be demoted and sacked.

“You will also be probed and made to return all the money given to you. In six months as president, I will move to Sambisa, that is where I will stay for one week and see if something will happen to me,” he added.

He expressed worry over how Nigerian soldiers are now seen as lazy and unpatriotic. “I now see Nigerian soldiers as the policemen of yesterday, while the policemen have been bastardised. What I will do in six months will scare you but that is the truth,” he said.

Al-Mustapha also said that he will overhaul the Nigerian military in six months, which will be painful, but necessary to restore the lost glory of the soldiers.

The former CSO to Abacha was speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa, where he talked about joining the 2023 presidential race under the platform of Action Alliance.

Major Al-Mustapha, who said he has joined politics fully, added that his nomination forms were purchased for him by some groups as their own contribution towards the realisation of his ambition.

On why he shunned the two major political parties in the country, he said he avoided them because he sees them as responsible for country’s misfortune.

He said President Muhammadu Buhari is someone they knew since they were children. “But those around him are the ones destroying Nigeria and they are many. If you put government on a scale, the damage they have done, the day he will find out will be the day he will change his thinking.”

He also accused the Buhari administration of ‘I-don’t-care attitude’, adding that once the president appoints someone, he doesn’t follow up to see how they are faring.

Al-Mustapha said if he is elected president he will set the right example through respect for rule of law, adding that after taking the oath of office, he will not treat anyone differently.
