Gunmen kill DPO, eight cops in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a Divisional Police Officer and eight other policemen in the state.

The spokesman of the command Kakakin ASP Nafi’u Abubakar told the BBC on Monday that the incident happened on Sunday.

“Around 2:30pm, the DPO of Kasaba received a report of attack on a village called Makuku and surrounding communities, and he quickly mobilised eight of his men to the scene where they met their deaths,” the police spokesman said.

Reports said Senator Bala Ibn NaAllah, who represents the area, sought the help of the military where a fighter plane was sent to repel the attack, but none of the gunmen was killed.

Dateline Nigeria reports that gunmen had last Tuesday attacked Kunduru, Bajida and Rafin Gora villages in the state where they rustled many cattle.
