Gunmen have attacked Government Science Secondary School in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State and abducted unspecified number of students.
Katsima State Police Command has confirmed an attack on a secondary school but said it has no information on abduction
The police spokesman DSP Gambo Isa said over 200 students who ran into the bush to escape the attack have been found.
He said policemen engaged the gunmen in a fierce gun battle in which a policeman sustained a gunshot wound.
Isa said additional policemen were deployed to confront the gunmen, adding that a headcount is being conducted to know the number of those missing.
However, a witness told the BBC Hausa that he saw when the gunmen stormed the school shooting into the air. “They abducted many students. We actually learnt of the impending attack Friday evening and we notified the security agencies, but nothing was done to avert it.”
