Ganduje appoints Aminu Ado Bayero as new Kano emir

Kano State Government has announced the appointment of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as the new Emir of Kano to replace Muhammadu Sanusi II who was dethroned earlier in the day.

The new emir was until his appointment the emir of the newly created Bichi emirate. A son of the late monarch Ado Bayero, Aminu is now the 15th Fulani emir of Kano.

His appointment was announced on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Usman Alhaji.

He had at various times held the traditional titles of Turakin Kano, Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar Gida and Wamban Kano.

Before the announcement of the new emir, security agents had taken Sanusi out of the Kano Emir’s Palace.

Reports said the deposed emir had been taken to Nasarawa State.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police Muhammad Garba told the BBC Hausa service that the deposed monarch was not molested in the process of taking him out of the palace.
