FUD VC hosts journalists, unveils 11-point agenda

The Vice- Chancellor Federal University Dutse, Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed has unveiled eleven point agenda in the interim as his main focus in the course of his tenure .

The VC spoke on his developmental plans for the university while briefing the press today.

He said improvement in Information technology and e- learning, Research and Development, Development of Students Centres and Lecture complexes, development of alternative source of energy, tackling of staff and student accomodation problems, improvement of staff welfare, among others will be his focus for the main time adding that other action plans aside these eleven main goals shall also be unveiled as the journey progresses.

He solicited for the support of the journalists in enlightening members of the public on the activities of the university.

Find below the eleven point agenda.

Information Technology and e-learning

Ensure that the university has a strong internet connection.

Provision of internet connectivity on campus for staff and student through wifi hotspots. This will ensure smooth conduct of e-learning and
teaching/research for students and academic staff, respectively.
Will enable automation of systems in the University and make administrative and lsecretarial duties easier
Provision of accessible and presentable university website, Student Learning Management System (LMS) and result portal. This will provide all the necessary information about the University and enhancing its global visibility.
Provide the university with E-library and access to “Sciencedirect” and other related platforms.
Acquisition of E-learning apps and OER materials that will improve our teaching and learning strategy.
Utilizing virtual reality technology especially in practical courses to guarantee
better understanding.

Research and Development
Putting the university on the global map in academic research and innovations through:
Recognition and rewarding system.
Creating annual research and innovation competition.
Create an annual exhibition day such that the university can showcase its patents and new products.
Create award and reward day for excellence.
Establishing MoUs with Elsevier and Springer and other publishing bodies for e-books and online journal subscription.
Quarterly research presentations for staff to share their research findings and published work with others.
Establishing a strong research team think-tank for the university that will be task with innovative research ideas to make the university a research centre for Africa.

Encourage a healthy staff-staff and staff-student relationship through the Introduction of

Mentor/mentee system for young lecturers and student advisory system for students.
Recognition and rewarding system for excellent students and hard working staff.
Establish an online student assessment and evaluation feedback of lecturer’s course based to improve teacher’s performance and deliverance of their duties.
Development of Students center and Lecture complexes

Development of a one-stop center for students that will take care of enquires on all aspects of studentship in the University, with various units such as counseling, financial advice, student’s admission/registration problem and general enquiry.

Provision and equipping of student’s lecture complexes to solve the shortages of lecture and examination venues.

Tackling students and staff accommodation challenges

Public Private Partnership such as build and operate system for student’s hostel and owner occupier for staff in collaboration with private estate developers, state government, TetFund, Federal Ministry of works and Federal Mortgage.
This will enhance staff maximum contribution toward the development of the university and will discourage the daily travelling between Kano and Jigawa.
Beautifying the University

Landscaping by planting flowers and palm trees along streets and at Faculties and other buildings, and planting commercial trees such as Mango, dates, guava etc on unused land in the University.
This will help in beautifying the university and provide a learning environment that is conducive and a source of income for the university.
Provision of better cleaning and refuse disposal processes.

It is also my ambition to see that a befitting Senate building is built for the University that has all the necessary structures and are well equipped to house the Principal and other administrative officers of the University, including comfortable council and senate chambers with pro-chancellor’s and external council members offices.

Development of alternative energy source (Solar plant) to supplement the epileptic power supply from the National grid.

Enhance internal revenue generation through commercialization of University farm, improvement and diversification of commercial activities of the University entrepreneurship center.

Establishment of Faculties of Law and Engineering

Strengthen staff welfare through revitalizing of staff revolving loan and micro-financing.
