Former NPAN president Ismaila Isa Funtua passes on

Ismaila Isa was a confidant of President Muhammadu Buhari’s nephew Mamman Daura and his son Abubakar is married to President Buhari’s daughter Safina (Lami).

A former President of the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Mallam Ismaila Isa Funtua, has died in Abuja, Dateline Nigeria has learnt.

He died of cardiac arrest on Monday night and will be buried Tuesday at 12pm, family sources said.

Hours before his death, family sources say, he had taken himself to the hospital for routine check and also the barber shop ahead of the Muslim festival of animal sacrifice.

Funtua, the founder of Bulet International Nigeria Limited, was also the founding Managing Director of the defunct Democrat Newspaper and served as President of the
Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) for 8 years.

He was also a former minister.

Born in 1942 in Funtua, Katsina State, Ismaila Isa was a pioneer student of the Federal Training Centre Kaduna. He trained as an administrative officer at the Institute of Administration, Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria and as an administrator at the Manchester University in the UK.

He was the Monitor Gen-eral of the Course 9, the prestigious National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru. He served at the Katsina Native Authority for seven years as an Administrative Officer.

Ismaila Isa was a renowned Business Executive and public officer with over thirty years of management experience. He was Personnel Manager in United Textiles Limited (UNTL).
