As Kaduna continues to experience heavy rainfall, several communities are experiencing flood, especially areas close to River Kaduna or its tributaries.
One of the affected communities is Asikolaye along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (western bypass). Residents woke up and found their houses submerged, leaving many of them trapped.
A combined team of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Nigerian Red Cross and the Kaduna Fire Service activated their response plan.
The team conducted a search and rescue exercise to rescue those that have been trapped. Those rescued included children, women and domestic animals.
Dateline Nigeria had reported that State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) had warned residents of flood prone areas to relocate.
Kabala community as well as Abubakar Kigo road extension, which sit close to the Kaduna river, were also flooded.
