Family and friends announce death of Shaykh Muhammad Alshareef

Shaykh Muhammad Alshareef, the Founder and President of AlMaghrib Institute, has died at the age of 47, according to a statement signed by his family and friends.

The statement said Shaykh Muhammad, who was healthy with no illness, suddenly passed away on Thursday night. His janaza (funeral prayer) will be performed at 5:30pm today at Al Quoz Cemetery in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) where he died.

Born in 1975 to Egyptian parents and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Muhammad Alshareef memorized the Quran and later graduated with an Islamic Law degree from the Islamic University of Madinah, Saudi Arabia class of 1999.

Through the AlMaghrib Institute, he taught university-level seminars on Islam and conducted seminars across the USA and Canada, as well as in Australia. He lived with his family in Canada before relocating to Dubai.

According to the Dean of Academic Affairs at the Al-Maghrib Institute, Dr Yasir Qadhi, an American preacher, theologian, and imam, “He was out with his children and he just collapsed. Brain hemorrhage, I don’t know the technical term, but Allah knows best.”

“I really believe, and I think history is going to show, that his impact and his legacy will be felt for many, many generations,” Dr Qadhi said, adding that the late Muhammad Alshareef was at the University of Madina, one year before him.

Dr Qadhi also disclosed how Muhammad Alshareef moved to Dubai 10 years ago. Alhamdulillah, he was living comfortably there, giving Da’awah online. I logged on to his Facebook to discover his last message was five hours ago, a small video about keeping up with the fitaanan, whatever test Allah sends you, rise up to that test, you can listen to the video.”

To Allah we belong and to Him we return.

Today, Shaykh Muhammad Alshareef – founder of DiscoverU and AlMaghrib – suddenly passed away.

This man was a giant in our Ummah, taught us the power of Dua, and to always rely on Allah. He raised a nation of Dua makers in all of us.

So today, we ask Allah to make us all a hujjah for him in the Akhirah, for everything he taught us to be counted in his scale of good deeds with him, and that Allah beautifies his reception, forgive him his sins, and enter him into Al-Firdaws.

Shaykh Muhammad was healthy with no illness, but life is not promised.

He was someone who took full advantage of his time spending it on what mattered most and what would lead to goodness in the Akhirah.

He has always said that the identity he aspires to be is that of a righteous man (as Najashi was described by the Prophet ﷺ – “today a righteous man has died”). We pray that with Allah, he is entered among the righteous. A true nation builder.

May all of his work continue to be a sadaqah jariyah for him until the Day of Judgment.

May Allah grant his family patience in this difficult time.

Please keep him, and his family, in your Duas.”
