Employment of 774,000: We won’t accept list from APC ward leaders – Minister

Minister of State for Labour anf Employment Festus Keyamo (SAN) has said that he did not direct that forms for the Special Public Works be distributed to All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward leaders to give to party members.

Keyamo, in a message on his twitter handle, said “Any such list will be discountenanced. This is not an APC programme but a programme for all Nigerians. We shall only accept final lists from the States’ Selection Committees.

“Kindly disregard all messages directing people to go to NDE offices to register for the Special Public Works. This will breach COVID-19 guidelines and it will not ensure we strictly achieve the 1000 per LGA. The selection will be done from LGA to LGA, not in States’ NDE offices.”

The plan to employ 774,000 Nigerians, with 1,000 from each of the 774 local councils in the country has generated controversy with the state minister and lawmakers openly disagreeing over the processes.

This led the National Assembly to order the suspension of the exercise, but President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly given the minister the go-ahead to continue. The president however warned his employees against disrespecting the legislature.
