Emir of Zazzau: Court decides Bamalli’s status today

A Kaduna State High Court in Sabon Gari, Zaria is set to deliver judgment in a suit requesting it to stop Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai from presenting staff of office to Amb, Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli as the new emir of Zazzau.

Justice Kabir Dabo adjourned the case to today for ruling after a hearing on Thursday.

Bamalli is due to receive his staff of office on Monday at a ceremony in Zaria, as Dateline Nigeria reported earlier.

However, Iyan Zazzau Bashar Aminu, through his counsel, Ustaz Yunus (SAN), filed an injunction requesting the court to stop the swearing-in of Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli as the new Emir of Zazzau.

Yunus said his application was pursuant to order 36, rule 8 of the High Court Civil Procedure Rules 2007 and Section 6, subsection 6 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Iyan Zazzau is insisting that, as the winner of the selection process by kingmakers, he was most qualified for the Zazzau throne.

However, Solicitor General of Kaduna state, Idris Aliyu, who is also counsel to governor El-Rufai, Balarabe Lawal, Secretary to Kaduna State Government and the Attorney General of Kaduna State asked the court to dismiss the suit for lack of merit.

Abdul Ibrahim (SAN), counsel to Zazzau Emirate, and Mahmud Magaji (SAN), counsel to the new emir, also opposed the motion.

However, the kingmakers, through their counsels Barristers Yemi Adekunle and A. A. Akaz, aligned with the motion of Iyan Zazzau, saying they have no cause to oppose the request for an order to stop the inauguration of the new emir.
