Emir of Potiskum hails introduction of social health insurance

The Emir of Potiskum Mai Umaru Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya had described the introduction of Social Health Insurance by the Federal Government as a new innovation that would replace the traditional system of financing healthcare in the country.

He said this when the team of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) officials headed by the Yobe State Coordinator Alh. Dabo I.Abdullahi visited the Emir’s Palace at Potiskum.

The officials were in the palace for sensitization on the newly introduced Programme of Group Individual and Family (GIFSHIP) by the Executive Secretary of the NHIS Professor Nasir Sambo.

The emir also said the old system of financing healthcare from the pocket is an old fashion, even as he advised people to invest on their health before they are on sick.

He said patronizing GIFSHIP is one way on investing in health by the people.

The emir also called on wealthy individuals, philanthropists, NGOs and other charitable organizations in the country to invest in healthcare of the vulnerables through health insurance packages.

He said government needs “the hands of all of us to ensure adequate provision of healthcare, hence every body must contribute his own quota”.

The emir said, “You have come up with another type of programme.This is what we can development, because in development there is progress. So I am very excited with your visit after your previous visitations.”

Several questions were asked and appropriately responded by the state coordinator Alh Dabo I. Abdullahi.
