Emefiele lauds el-Rufai’s focus on agriculture

Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai has laid the foundation for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Tomato Jos tomato processing factory in Kangimi, Igabi local government area of the state.

The US Ambassador Mary Beth Leonard and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Godwin Emefiele are also attending the event

Founder/CEO of Tomato Jos Mira Mehta welcomed dignitaries to the event, sharing the dream of her company to eventually have 3000 hectares of land under cultivation, alongside the development of viable processing facility on the farm.

CBN boss Godwin Emefiele has praised the el-Rufai’s government for its attention to agriculture, noting that today’s event is the fourth he has attended in Kaduna State to commission or break ground for an investment in the agricultural sector.

Tomato Jos aims to produce 10% of the tomato paste consumed in Nigeria; sourced from 150,000 tons of tomatoes by investing N10.25bn over five years. Of these, N1.5bn is already invested. In 2020, N1.75bn will be invested in the tomato processing facility.

On her first visit to any state since presenting her credentials, US Ambassador Mary Beth Leonard has commended Mira Mehta for driving the Tomato Jos dream and expressed gratitude to Kaduna State for supporting her.
