El-Rufai, Fayemi absent as APC governors meet Buhari

Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai (Kaduna), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Yahaya Bello (Kogi) and Mai Mala Buni (Yobe) were absent during meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and President Muhammadu Buhari.

The APC governors, led by their chairman Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, met the president at the State House on Thursday where issues bedevilling the party were discussed.

Other governors at the meeting are Babagana Umara Zulum (Borno), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Adegboyega Oyetola (Osun), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Abubakar Bello (Niger), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano) and Aminu Masari (Katsina).

The rest are Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Simon Lalong (Plateau), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Muhammad Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun) and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara).

Dateline Nigeria reports that while Kogi governor lost his mother at the weekend, el-Rufai and Fayemi are said to be plotting ways to control the party ahead of 2023.

The Yobe governor is said to be working against the emergence of Waziri Bulama as APC national secretary, the position he held until his election as governor. All the absent governors were not represented.

Briefing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, Bagudu said the APC NEC meeting earlier slated to hold on Tuesday has been postponed.

The governor said they requested for the postponement to allow them resolve all contending issues in the party.

One of the current issues is the fate of the party’s national chairman Adams Oshiomhole.
