Egypt to join AU anti-corruption convention

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi yesterday ratified a decree under which Cairo would join an African Union (AU) agreement to combat corruption.

The pact, dubbed AU’s Convention on Combating and Preventing Corruption, was signed in 2003 between the AU member states in Mozambique. It was approved by the Egyptian parliament in 2017.

The deal aims at “promoting, facilitating and regulating cooperation among AU countries to ensure the effectiveness of measures and actions to prevent, detect, punish and eradicate corruption and related offences in the country,” according to official MENA.
