Former Real Madrid player Royston Drenthe has signed for Racing Murcia in the fourth tier of the Spanish football and is aiming to get back in shape before making his debut.
The Dutchman spoke about his interesting personal life and what he seeks to achieve with his new club.
“I have seven kids with four different women and now I’m single,” he told Radio MARCA.
“I have to take things step by step. I’m not ready to play yet, I think I have to lose three kilos.
“From Monday I’m going on a diet. I’ve always eaten a lot, my aunts cook very well.”
He spoke of his time with Real Madrid and his closest colleagues during that period, but insists his partying days are over.
“I have very good memories. The city is like my home,” he said of the Spanish capital.
“At first, my best friend was Robinho and then when he left it was Guti. The Buddha is no longer there.
“It was the best place to go out [but] I’m already 33 years old and those things are in the past.”
Drenthe also gave his thoughts on Sergio Ramos‘ contract situation.
“If I were Florentino [Perez], I would renew Sergio Ramos for life,” he said.
Finally, Drenthe made clear that his primary focus is football above all.
“The plan is to show that I’m not here for a laugh, I want to show people what I can do, reach the end of this season and see what my body says.”
