Deforestation: Niger gov signs law against felling of trees

Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has signed two bills into law at the Government House, Minna.

The bills are to “provide for the prohibition of indiscriminate felling of trees law 2020” and to establish the “Niger State Security Trust Fund law 2020”.

The State Security Trust Fund seeks to address gaps in the funding of security, as the business of security does not rest with the government alone, but a collective responsibility and involved stakeholders in the business of providing security.

“While the law for prohibition of indiscriminate felling of trees will help prevent deforestation in the State,” the governor’s Chief Press Secretary Mary Noel-Berje said in a statement.
