COVID-19 vaccines must be approved by NAFDAC, says FG

Minister of State for Health, Olorunimbe Mamora, said the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) would check and approve any vaccine that would be administered in Nigeria.

According to him, many candidate vaccines are coming up but anyone Nigeria decides on, will be thoroughly investigated and approved by NAFDAC.

He also revealed that Nigeria had yet to decide on the vaccine to get but the Federal Government was working with other partners to get vaccine by the first quarter of 2021.

Dateline Nigeria reported that the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) insisted on testing all coronavirus vaccines before administering them to Nigerians.

NMA President, Professor Innocent Ujah said, “If the vaccines come to Nigeria, we need to quickly do our own evaluation of that vaccine.”

“I cannot say with 100 percent certainty that in the process of developing this vaccine, in the clinical trials, whether any African countries were involved. I’m not too sure, but it’s possible.
