Covid-19: FMC Bida doctor tests positive after Kano trip

The management of Federal Medical Centre, BIDA has announced that one of its staff has tested positive for coronavirus.

“The staff who is a doctor in the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology traveled to Kano to see his family and returned to BIDA on Sunday 26th April 2020,” Dr Abubakar Usman, Head of Clinical Services, Research and Training, said in a statement on Thursday.

“His only contact with the hospital was on Monday the 27th April 2020. He developed symptoms of URTI on Tuesday 28th April 2020 following which he alerted the RRT of FMC BIDA and also commenced self isolation.

“He had his samples taken on Thursday 30th April 2020 following the NCDC guidelines.
The RRT of FMC BIDA in consultation with the management has taken all the necessary steps required in managing confirmed cases of COVID-19.”

It added that the doctor, who tested positive on May 6, 2020, is currently at the treatment center receiving adequate care and his condition is stable.

“The management urge all staff to remain calm as the situation is under control.
The management is hereby calling on
all contacts of this staff who only reported work on Monday the 27th of April to report to the office of the HCS for further,” it said.
