COVID-19: FG shelves reopening of schools, WAEC

The Federal Government has rescinded its plan to reopen schools for graduating students saying the time was not right due to the raging coronavirus pandemic.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, disclosed this to State House correspondents after a virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.

Dateline Nigeria reports that the Minister of State for Education Emeka Nwajiuba had few days ago informed that schools would be reopened for final year students.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) also followed by issuing guidelines for the examinations it said were to start on August 4.

But speaking, Adamu said the government was ready to forfeit the WAEC exams to save the lives of students, even as he urged states in the process of reopening schools to rescind their decision
