COVID-19: Customs, Oyo government disagree over palliatives rice

The Nigeria Customs Service and Oyo State Government have disagreed over the palliatives rice given to the latter by thw former.

While the Oyo and Osun command of the NCS described the 1,800 bags of rice meant as Covid-19 palliatives as good for human consumption, the Oyo State government said they were truly bad and unfit for consumption.

ASC1 Abdullah Lagos, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan that 6,000 bags of rice were given to Ekiti, Osun, Oyo and Ondo States.

He added that only Oyo State claimed that the 1,800 bags of rice released to it were infected and not good for consumption.

Lagos said the claim by the Oyo State government was not fair and the command suspected foul play.

But a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, who equally serves as a member of the Covid-19 Task Force, indicated that any claims to the contrary was a disservice to humanity and attempt at endangering the lives of the people in the state.

“No government that is worth its name would agree to serve its people with food items that are infested with weevils that are clearly visible to the eyes,” the statement read.
