Court sends Runsewe to jail over contempt

An FCT High Court has sent the Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, to jail for contempt of its order made on December 15, 2017.

Justice Jude Okek made the order on Thursday, while ruling on a motion from a suit filed by Ummakalif Limited against the FCT Minister, FCDA; DG of NCAC, and the Minister for Culture and Tourism.

The court had ordered parties to stay proceedings with regards to the demolition of the Arts and Craft in the FCT, but the order was flouted by the NCAC.

The judge said sending Runsewe to the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) would serve as a deterrent to others who abuse office and disobey court orders.

He ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest Runsewe and hand him over to the NCS immediately until he retraces his steps.
