Court remands suspects for sharing sex video in Sokoto

A Magistrate’s Court in Sokoto State has ordered the remand of a boy and his three friends until 19 October for sharing a sex video which led to the cancellation of a girl’s marriage in the state.

Aminu Hayatu Tafida, and his friends were arraigned for committing an offence including rape and circulation of indecent video as well as defamation.

The other suspects are Umar Abubakar, Mas’ud Abubakar Gidado and Aliyu Shehu Kangiwa. The fifth suspect is still at large.

The prosecutor ASP Samuel Sule said the offences are contrary to section seven of the Sokoto State penal code. But the suspects have all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Tafida’s lawyer Barrister A.Y Abubakar dismissed the allegations against his client saying the First Information Report of the police did not state categorically the case against him.

The lawyer representing the three other suspects Barrister Yahaya Gwaza said there are jo sufficient evidences against his clients.

After listening to the arguments of all the parties, the Chief Magistrate Shu’aibu Ahmad adjourned the case to October 19 for the police to prepare the charges against the suspects.

He also ordered the remand of the suspects pending the continuation of the case.
