A 20-year-old housewife, Lamratu Nasiru, has been remanded at the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Katsina State over the killing of her 7-month-old stepdaughter.
Lamratu is accused of hitting the girl on the head with a stick during a brawl with the victim’s mother, Zabbau. Lamratu and Zabbau are married to Mallam Nasiru of Unguwar Shalele village, Matazu Local Government Area of the state.
“As a result, the baby sustained a serious injury on her head and was rushed to the General hospital, Musawa where she was certified dead by a medical doctor,” according to the police.
The police told a Katsina Senior Magistrate court where the case was read on Tuesday that the incident occurred on 21, August 2022 at Unguwar Shalele village.
Zabbau reported the incident at the Divisional police headquarters, Matazu, following which Lamratu was arrested and charged to court .
The police have slammed a charge of culpable homicide on Lamratu in accordance with section 189 of Katsina state penal code law, 2021.
The court further heard that the baby’s mother, Zabbau also allegedly sustained injuries during the brawl.
The police prosecutor, ASP Sani Ado, however, told the court that investigation was still in progress on the case, pleading for another date when the case could come up for mention at the court.
The presiding Senior Magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko granted the request and adjourned the case to 24, October, 2022 for mention.
She directed that Lamratu be remanded in the Katsina Correctional Centre till that date.
Meanwhile, a -25-year-old man, Ahmed Abbah has also been remanded in a Katsina Correctional Centre over alleged sodomy.
According to the police, Abbah, who resides at Rafindadi Quarters, Katsina , was alleged to have engaged in sodomy with a 19-year-old boy on 12, June, 2022 in Katsina.
The victim’s mother, Talatu Gambo of Yanshuni Quarters, Katsina lodged a formal complaint about the incident at the Central police station, katsina.
The police charged Abbah for an “unnatural offence”, in line with section 255 of Katsina State penal code law of 2021.
The Presiding Magistrate directed that Abbah be remanded at the Correctional Centre until 2, November, 2022 when the case would come up for mention before her.
