Committee to renegotiate 2009 agreement with ASUU for inauguration today

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu will today inaugurate a seven-man committee to renegotiate the 2009 agreement between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The spokesman for the Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Goong, said: “The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, will inaugurate a team to renegotiate the agreement the Federal Government reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities in 2009.”

The spokesman for the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Charles Akpan, also informed that “The committee on renegotiation set up by the Ministry of Education is expected to round off everything on the condition of service and turn in its report in six weeks.”

Dateline Nigeria reports that the education minister had, while reconstituting the team on Friday, said there was the need to speedily bring to conclusion all outstanding issues in the 2009 agreements.
The seven-man panel has Prof. Emeritus Nimi Briggs, who is also the Pro-Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University (AEFU), Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, as Chairman.

Other members are Lawrence Ngbale, Pro-Chancellor, Federal University, Wukari (North East), Prof. Funmi Togunu-Bickersteth, Pro-Chancellor, Federal University, Birnin Kebbi (South West), Sen. Chris Adighije, Pro-Chancellor, Federal University. Lokoja (South East), Prof. Olu Obafemi, Pro-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna (North-Central), Prof. Zubairu Iliyasu, Pro-Chancellor, Kano State University of Science and Technology (North West) and Matthew Seiyefa, Pro-Chancellor, Niger Delta University (South-South)
