There is serious gridlock on the Kaduna-Abuja highway as a truck conveying metal scrap crashed near Alheri Camp, about 35 km from Kaduna.
Dateline Nigeria reports that the accident occurred in the morning around 9am. The truck completely blocked one side of the highway.
A road safety official who is among the many personnel trying to ensure order on the road blamed the gridlock on impatience on the side of motorists who ended up creating multiple lanes.
“We stationed our men right at the gate of Alheri prayer ground to alert motorists but they are resorting to self-help, further compounding the situation,” the officer said, even as he advised motorists to use alternative route if they can.
Dateline Nigeria observed that the gridlock had extended to Rijana as motorists move at a snail speed. Hundreds of motorists were also caught up in the gridlock on the everbusy highway.
There is also a heavy security presence on the highway which had experienced abductions recently. But the bad state of the road has contributed in no small measure to the gridlock
