Tragedy struck on Tuesday as a newlywed couple got involved in a road accident on the Kaduna-Abuja highway barely 48 hours after wedding, leaving the groom dead and the bride in the hospital.
Dateline Nigeria learnt that Jamilu Abdulhamid and his heartthrob Saratu Abdul Salisu got married on Sunday in Kano. The accident has thrown family and friends of the couple into sudden mourning.
According to the groom’s friend Kabiru Garba, the couple left Kano for Abuja preparatory to leaving for Benin, Edo State where they had planned to settle in their matrimonial home.
“I had my last chat with Saratu yesterday [Monday] where I congratulated her on her marriage. Saratu was taken to a hospital in Abuja for medical attention,” Garba said, and prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive Jamilu and grant Saratu quick recovery.
Dateline Nigeria also reports that Saratu’s brother, Abdul Salisu has debunked a Facebook post that his sister had also died, saying “my sister is alive, I am with her now. Please she is not dead.”
Saratu had on April 11 this year posted about her engagement to Jamilu on Facebook, a message that attracted several comments from her friends and well-wishers. The deceased also shared pictures of their wedding on his page.
Jamilu is to be buried on Wednesday after funeral prayers in Shagari Quarters Kano.
