Bauchi LG polls: Police assure electorate of adequate security

Bauchi State Police Command has assured the electorate of adequate security during the upcoming local government election in the state to provide a level playing ground for all the political parties.

Dateline Nigeria reports that election is set hold across the 20 Local Government Areas of Bauchi State on Saturday 17th October 2020.

The State Commissioner of Police Lawal Tanko Jimeta stated this on Thursday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Bauchi.

He called on members of the public to come out and cast their vote on the election day without fear of intimidation from any person or group of persons.

He assured them that the police and other sister security agencies deployed will be all out to man every polling unit and to deal with any miscreant, political thug and other disgruntle elements that may attempt to foment trouble before, during and after the election.

Represented by the Police Public Relations Officer DSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, the Commissioner said “There will be total restriction of movement of persons and vehicles between the midnight hour of Friday 16th October, 2020 to 2:00pm of Saturday 17th October, 2020, except those on essential duties who must carry their valid identification card.”

He added that “All personalities are barred from going to polling units with their security details on the Election Day.All parties to the elections are to be cautions with all COVID-19 protocols in effect”.

The CP sought for the support of traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth leaders, parents and guardians to prevail on their subjects not to allow themselves to be used in causing disturbance before, during and after election as anybody arrested in the act will face the full wrath of the law.
