Bauchi governor empowers 1000 youths with N150m

Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Muhammed has empowered 1000 youths with N150m in Giade and Shira local government areas of the state.

The governor flagged-off the distribution of empowerment packages to youths and women in Shira and Giade with 500 beneficiaries from each council.

He said the initiative was meant to enable the beneficiaries establish businesses of their own or boost the existing ones.

Muhammed said the 500 beneficiaries in each local government area received sewing and grinding machines, motorcycles, vehicles while others were empowered with N50, 000 capital.

Governor Bala said the programme was deliberately designed to address unemployment in the state, noting that his administration is desirous of pulling citizens out of poverty and joblessness.

In their separate remarks, the chairmen of Shira and Giade Mahmud Abba and Usman Salisu respectively expressed appreciation to the governor for carrying their people along in delivering dividends of democracy.

The chairmen commended the Governor for the ongoing renovation of the 20 local government Secretariates in the state.

They called on the beneficiaries not to sell the items but make good use of them in order to become self reliant.

Some of the beneficiaries interviewed expressed gratitude to the governor for the gesture, and pledged to make the best use of the items to boost their resources and businesses.

The empowerment, which is part of the  ongoing empowerment Programme, tagged Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme’ (KEEP) is expected to cover all the 20 local government areas of the state.

Shira and Giade are the number 13 and 14 local government areas that benefitted from the programme.

Our corresspondent recalled that the state government, under the scheme, had distributed 1,000 tricycles for commercial purposes in addition to a number of buses to commercial drivers on loan in Bauchi.
